You know your basic chords, you want to learn more, but more than anything, you want to be better at using them with a great right hand. In this four-week class, we’ll add new strumming patterns and chord variations to give your playing style and depth. Each week includes at least one great tune, sometimes more.

We’ll keep things lighthearted but structured, helping you sound more confident whether you’re playing alone or with others.

These are online workshops via Zoom. You’ll get a meeting link and handouts by email shortly before the first session.

Notice the Roman numeral “I” in the title? I often offer the same class again—with all-new music. For example, Novice Ukulele – Beyond the Basics I, II, or III. That way, you keep strengthening your core techniques without repeating the same tunes every time.

Bring: Ukulele tuned G–C–E–A (The G can be high or low.)

• Review of the basics.

• Chord review.

• Dominant 7th chords.

• 12-bar blues.

• “Sittin’ on Top of the World”

No Class – Thursday, Nov 27 — Happy Thanksgiving!

Week 3 – Thursday, Dec 4 — 1:30–2:30 Central Time (USA) / 2:30–3:30 Eastern Time (USA)

• Introduction to movable chord shapes. (There are five and each has its major form and its minor form.)

• Finger-picking chords AND melody for “Amazing Grace.”

Week 4 – Thursday, Dec 11 — 1:30–2:30 Central Time (USA) / 2:30–3:30 Eastern Time (USA)

• Finger-picking chords AND melody for “Silent Night.”
