This first paragraph is where I introduce the instrument. I tell a little about the builder. I talk about what I really like about the instrument. (If there's something I DON'T like, I'll tell the builder privately. These aren't really reviews.) If I like the instrument enough to keep and use it, I'll use this page to tell everyone why. Everything that follows this paragraph will either by information and media supplied by the builder (like what you see below) or media I create. (videos, photos, and audio files) Builder, please include contact information like email address, phone number, website, etc.

  • Fretboard - An occasional coat of Tung Oil keeps the fingering portion of the fretboard healthy.
  • All other Wood Components - The finish is a durably lacquer based semi-gloss. A soft cloth either dry or slightly dampened works well. A fine grade polish can be used to restore luster if desired.
  • Polymer Components - A soft damp cloth works well. Small scratches can be polished out. However, to maintain a consistent sheen we recommend blending a larger area or lightly hand-buffing the entire pan.
  • Overall the HX is a very durable instrument, yet lightweight. The contouring of the molded body offers comfort and an amazing strength to weight ratio.

Fun Facts

  • Did you know..... The HX dulcimer started as a napkin sketch and then before any wood chips flew or polymer was formed, every part was modeled in the virtual world using a 3D Computer-Aid Design program?
  • We 10 Haleys (HX) enjoy learning and trying new things. Our start in musical instruments came first through my building a harp for my daughter's b-day and afterward by way of a simple one string instrument called a "Can-Jo". So when the dulcimer came into our lives we were ready to dive right in. We've even had the privilege to play and teach a workshop incorporating both of these instruments. In fact, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has invited us to hold our Can-Jo workshop on Feb. 7th.
