No. Right around the time I got my first dulcimer, I borrowed my aunt's Yamaha guitar. She later gave it to me. I remember how it hurt my fingers to fret the strings even for a moment. I learned the basic major and minor chords. For strumming, I used what I had been learning on the dulcimer. I tried fingerpicking but didn't get real far with it. Eventually, I worked on E major, E minor, A major, and A minor bar chords. Bar chords were rough! At that time, the guitar was just too much for me. I had no idea how to manage six strings; I didn't like how the left hand felt; and the high string action on that Yamaha was just too much. I ended up selling the guitar to singer songwriter David Schafer of Northern Kentucky. (Not David Schnaufer) I would eventually come back to the guitar for leading group singing and learning about Bluegrass. |
